The Visit, Pt. 2

So, I left off yesterday at our trip to the wildlife preserve.  I just have to include another shot of that beautiful peacock we spotted.

Here I am with Abby.  We're huddled close together because we were trying to stay warm!

And here with are with Connor...who makes us all look like munchkins!  Either he's really tall or we're super short!

The two little love birds.

Brittany and me.

After we got home, I got ready to prepare some hamburgers for dinner.  Brittany asked me if I had any plans to marinate them. No, not really.  I mean, I sometimes take an envelope of Lipton's Beefy Onion soup mix and stir it into the hamburger meat for a little flavor, but I hadn't planned to do so that night.  She said that Connor told her that his family always uses Dales's Steak Seasoning on their hamburgers.  Connor told me it makes them SO GOOD.  So, off to the store they went and they came back with some in hand.

Now, the only thing that got my goat about all of this is that I was raised so that when you're a guest in someone's home, you eat whatever they serve and are gracious about it.  I would never think to suggest to someone I'd just met how to make their meal different to suite my own palate, you know?  Just kind of struck me as a little bold, but whatever.  I mixed about 2 Tbsp. of it in with the meat and it made the burgers very moist and tasty.  Connor ate 3 of them, so he must have approved!

Now, Brittany pulled me aside and told me that Connor really liked us and appreciated everything we'd done for him, so to show his appreciation, he bought us this at the store...

Yep...I now have my very own canister of Tony's Creole Seasoning.  I got so tickled!  Connor must believe that the way to someone's heart is straight through their stomach!

Though we ended up having a nice visit, it just wasn't the same with him here.  Brittany, Abby, and I didn't get much one-on-one time, at all, and I missed it.  No late night talks, giggle sessions, or shopping trips.  I mean, Connor, obviously, makes Brittany very happy and she does him, too, but I feel that this kind of visit is rapidly becoming our new norm.  Part of me wishes that things could stay as they "used to be", but I know that's not possible.  So, I guess I'll try to go with the flow as much as I can and take life as it comes.

Tall-Dude sure loves his seasonings, doesnt he? the seasoning & now the sauce? Funny!!! Could be worse... remember that :)

Oh, the days will come when the girls will want breaks from the "signficant other" & just want girl/sister/mom time... hang in there! New love is just so consuming :)

Oh my gosh that's funny! At least he's trying... right? ha.

I like Rebecca's comment. She sounds like she knows. ;)

Oh...you are so funny! And such a worrier!! I have the feeling there will be a lot more "Connor's" in the future and they will have all their strange quirks. I love Emily and Abby's boyfriends. As long as they are polite and treat my girls right, I'm happy. In fact, although we don't have as much time for girlie things, we do have more to talk about!! Hang in there, April!

XO,
Jane

I actually laughed out loud on this post. That kid is cute and he has a good since of humor! I know it seemed bold about the seasoning in the hamburger but that is part of families coming together, new ideas to try, some work some don't-BUT you learn something new everyday if your not careful. I know you miss the way things were but remember, this path is the path to grandchildren and a whole new love.
My daughter is marrying a guy I'm not thrilled about but NOTHING I say is going to change that. Either I jump in and am part of it or I miss out. I have to learn to love the good things about this young man and hope the way we live becomes a example to him, and most of all pray HARD! :)
You are such a joy April...

Okay, he's really cute! They are adorable together!

I feel the need to give Connor the benefit of the doubt on the suggestion. Maybe he enjoys cooking/grilling like my Hubby and was trying to suggest something he thought y'all would like maybe to try and impress y'all a little? My Hubby ALWAYS grills at my mom's house. Maybe he was just trying to help?

I know it's just not the same with the boyfriend around, is it? But, at least you got to see how he treats Brittany and that he was thoughtful enough to get you your very own seasoning. Hee Hee!

Looks like everyone has a great time. I agree with getting used to the 'new' way of things. My oldest is 24 and I'm happy for her and her boyfriend, but I too miss our times together. I'm glad she's close by now anyhow.
The picture in your previous post of your daughter teasing the goat is hilarious!

I met Ben freshman year of college and we were always going to each other's houses, so I understand this. As a mom, I would have been furious, but I can understand Brittany--she's just supporting him. And he probably wasn't trying to insult you, just wanted to share. My husband wanted to 'share' a lot. :)

I relived my then-daughter's-boyfriend-now-husband's first visit! I think I cried when I realized we wouldn't have just our own family visits anymore. In time it got more comfortable (and it was pretty comfy from the beginning), but we had moments where TJ acted boldly and we were shocked. Mark and I figured that our daughter needed his 1st born leadership style and that we should appreciate that for her, even though it rubbed both of us (1st borns too) the wrong way at times. We are blessed to have a son-in-law who loves his wife, serves the Lord and has steady employment!

That is just too funny about the seasoning!
