As always, Joyce has picked a bunch of great questions for this week's Hodgepodge. Head on over to her place, From This Side Of The Pond, link up and join in on the fun!
1. The Hodgepodge falls on the last day of February this year, a leap year. How will you spend that extra day? Hmm...doing what I always do. Hopping on the treadmill, cleaning house, doing laundry...you get the picture. Oh, and my sweet Alabama bestie is supposed to call me for another one of our marathon chat sessions...I can't wait! Wonder if we can break our record of 3 1/2 hours this time?
2. What has recently required a leap of faith on your part? Well, let's just say that raising teenagers is far from easy. Can I get an "Amen"? Rather than try to be a 'friend', I've chosen to take the more difficult road and be a PARENT. Not an easy choice, by any means, but definitely the right one.
3. We're one week into the season of Lent...are you marking those days in some way? Giving something up or adding something extra to normal life? How's it going so far? Being that I'm Baptist, we've never really observed Lent. However, I am committed to worrying less, trusting Him more, and making extra time for prayer. It's so easy to get caught up in the busy routines of every day life that we often don't make time to talk daily with God. I need that time with Him so desperately.
"Prayer is the key in the morning and the bolt on the door at night."
4. When was the last time you sat beside a fire? It would have to be when we visited my mother-in-law at Christmas. She had a roaring fire burning in her family room and I stood by it nearly the whole night.
5. Surf-N-Turf is on the menu. Do you order as is or do you ask for just the surf (lobster), just the turf (steak), or a menu so you can select another option? I'm not a big fan of lobster, but I do love a good steak smothered in mushrooms and onions...and dressed with soy sauce! So, it's turf for me!
6. If you could have any television show back, not in reruns but in new episodes, what program would you choose? Now, that's not an easy question! Hmm...let's see. I'd probably have to say "The Carol Burnett Show" or the "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson (even though he's passed away). No one could make me laugh quite like Carol Burnett, Tim Conway, and good ol' Johnny.
7. They say an elephant never forgets. These days, would you say your memory is more like an elephant or a gnat? I would have to say that my memory is hanging in there pretty well, so far. Of course, I've had moments when a telemarketer will call and ask me for my zip code or home address and I draw a complete blank! So embarrassing!
8. Insert your own random thought here. Have any of you heard that Google Friend Connect will soon be eliminated, so the suggestion is for everyone who blogs to join Linky. As you can see on my sidebar, I've done just. If you would like to continue to follow me, would you mind following me via Linky? I would greatly appreciate it! I will gladly do the same for you! All you have to do is ask! Also, I'm amazed at how many new job opportunites have opened up since Chris got that verbal offer. He's had 3 interviews this week already! He'll be headed to Nashville next Wednesday for another 2nd interview! He's just so excited and encouraged! God is definitely at work in all of this! Until next time, friends!

wow! 3 and a half hours! =D I'm imagining some great moment of laughter and fun convos! :) Hope you have another good one like that.
And LOL to the teenager quote graphic thingy. My parents currently have three in the house...including me. I'm 20, but I don't act like it at all, haha!
GFC is awesome... why would they want to eliminate that? I heard about it but thought it was some sort of a sham? I googled it but couldn't find the actually message from the google people saying that it would be.
I second that "Amen". My oldest is not quite a teenager but he sure does have the attitude down. I'm hoping and praying he is going through it early and will get out of it early!
You are a whole lot nicer to telemarketers than I am. I don't even let them get far enough to ask me for my zip code or address before snapping at them and/or hanging the phone up. It's really the only time in my life that I'm flat out rude.
I'm not familiar with that Linky follower thing. I'll have to check it out. I knew GFC was leaving for non-blogger blogs.
I hope a job opens up soon for your hubby! I have no idea what all this Linky business is about. I will definitely follow you! I feel raising teenagers is so much harder than when they were babies! Enjoy your phone call and Wednesday!
I added the linky on my sidebar too but I'm not really sure who it applies to. I follow most blogs thru blogger or in my google reader which I think will all be fine.
When we closed on our house in Maryland we were a tad bit stressed. Our girls were 4 and 6 and were sitting quietly at the table with us in the law office. When they asked for the new street address hubs and I both looked blank. Our six year old chimed in with it-we'd had her memorize it before we moved. It was funny.
Raising teenagers? Oy!!! I loved watching Carol Burnett. I never understood why she tugged her ear at the end of each show. Nashville??? I get to Nashville. But I know wherever you go, God will be there with you. Have a fabulous day. Blessings, SusanD
Wait, what??? Google Friend Connect is going away??? WHAT??? What's going on? I'm always the last to know anything.....well, there goes my numbers......
So happy things are looking up on the job front!! SO encouraging!!!!!
I loved the cartoon you posted about nailing jello to a tree...how true is that.
Thanks for the heads up about Google Friend connect. I have been out of the loop with technology stuff the last month or more. I'll start looking into linky.
I definitely have the memory of a gnat. Too much sweet n low is to blame. Have a great leap day:)
I did not hear that about Goggle connect... good to know!
I loved Johny Carson. When I mention him to my youth kids, they have NO CLUE who he is.. that's sad.
I am so glad to hear that things are picking up on the job front. Will keep you in my prayers.
Love long talks with friends, loved the jello tree joke - so true, your shows would be great returns, I'd be happy to follow. Can't believe I've never run across your blog before!
Hope all goes well with the job interviews.
I loved the Carol Burnett show, too! I would have to have the "Surf" portion, April. Perhaps we could share?:) Lori
Teenagers are difficult creatures to raise, especially teenage girls. Holy cow, we have two and you have three! Our son has been far less contrary to deal with.
I thought GFC was going to be off limits to non-blogspot accounts. Is this not true? Does this mean I need to hussle to get Linky? I have Google +, but I'm not particular fond of this. It reminds me too much of Facebook and a little pointless.
Gotta dash, it's time to ride my exercise bike 12-miles!
Enjoy your phone call. I usually hate paying the price for surf even though we spend big money on meals out! I have to look into the linky thing. Great new on the job hunt.
April, thanks so much for stopping by. It's always fun to make a new blogging friend. I've enjoyed your HP answers and browsing through your blog.
Oh, yes, teenage years can be challenging but so, so much fun. We were so blessed during those years with our children and have the fondest memories of that time. Since our two are 33 and 36 now, that has been a longggg time ago. :o)
Blessings to you!
Sounds like a busy day. Love how you are praying more and worrying less. Good Choice.
I love the nailing jello to a tree cartoon about teenagers. It is so true!! I did hook up to Linkys but would love to keep Google friends....too much change
Since we move every couple of years, I'm with you on the whole zip code thing... it is truly painful when I have to recall a past address or phone number... 8 different address in 17 years will do that to a person!
I forgot about Carol Burnett. That was a funny show!
Thanks for the tip about Linky. I will have to look into it.
I LOVED The Carol Burnett Show!!!
I also like your distinction of choosing to be a parent, rather than a friend. They have lots of friends, they need parents!
Ohhhhhh, Johnny Carson. How I loved that man!! And your 'leap of faith' is a tough one to go through, but being a parent is much more 'right' than being a best friend ---after you nurture them into being upstanding citizens, then you will find you then become best friends. My kids are 43 and 40 this year.
You are so right, raising teenagers is tough, but you'll make it. Kudos to you for taking the "parent" road, too :)
I'd forgotten about Carol Burnett. I loved her show, and Johnny's, too. I haven't laughed nearly as much since back then.
This was wonderful, April!
And I miss Carol Burnett and Johnny, too.. I have fond childhood memories of both of them!
Ooooh, I forgot about the Carol Burnett show! Loved it!
I need to look into the whole Linky thing. I did not know about it. Ugh. Just when I think I have it all figured out... Ha.
