What time is it??? It's time for Blue Monday hosted by my friend, Sally, over at Smiling Sally. Participants are asked to share something that's blue, and I have the perfect thing! On Saturday, Chris decided to go work out at the gym, then he mowed the yard when he got home. No, our grass is NOT green just yet, but he wanted to take off the dead top layer. Well, Brittany has been asking me to take her shopping for her prom dress, which is in April, so I thought that would be the perfect opportunity, since Chris was going to be busy for awhile. Abby, Brittany, and I piled in the car and we were off in search for the "perfect" dress.
Now, a few weeks ago, we'd stopped by a local antique store that we'd never been in before. It had aisles and aisles of all sorts of great things. If Chris hadn't been with us, I could have made a killing! Well, when we walked down one aisle, the girls and I saw a gorgeous dress on display. It was a hot pink color and had ruffles all around from the waistline to the floor. It was just so different from anything we'd ever seen. The only problem is that it was a size 8 and Brittany wears a 1/2. So, we really didn't think much more about it until Saturday. I told her that we should go back to the antique store, first, and see if she could try it on. The owner of the dress was, actually, in the store and she told us that the dress had come right off the runway in New York City and that it was such a special one-of a-kind dress. She said it would easily sell for $1000, but she had it priced at $189. I, of course, WAS NOT going to pay that much money, but she said she'd work with me.
Well, Brittany, Abby, and I went to the bathroom in the store so that she could try it on. The color looked really pretty on her, but it was too big around. I asked the owner of the dress if she thought it could be altered and she said that it could, but that it would probably cost around $150, which was about the same price as the cost of the dress. I told Brittany that it just wasn't going to work, and she agreed. Then, the lady told me that her daughter was a senior in high school and that said she'd found her prom dress at a consignment store about 20 miles down the road. She gave me the address and we headed that way.
It was a very cute little store that was tucked alongside a brand new modern shopping center. There were all sorts of long, formal dresses running the entire length of one wall. We were in hog heaven! We all picked out several dresses that we liked and Brittany took them to the dressing room to try on. She narrowed her choices down to 3 dresses. Abby and I, along with the shop owner, agreed that this long, royal blue dress was THE ONE for her. It looked so gorgeous on her and fit her like a glove. We will have to get the length altered just a little. Best part is that I paid only $73 for it! Chris was thrilled because I'd prepared him before we left that it might be hard to find a prom dress under$150. So, whatcha think? It laces up in the back and ties in a big bow...so pretty!
Please be sure to pay Sally a visit and wish her and all the other participants a Happy BLUE MONDAY!

P.S. I'm a bit bummed...I've lost two of my followers since this morning! I've heard others mention that the same thing happened to them! An epidemic? Who knows! I just hope and pray that I didn't offend anyone, or bore you half to death with my stories about my family, but I'm just being ME. Please, dear followers...come back!

Oh no, your poor daughter. I wouldn't want to go through those years again for anything in the world! I'm glad she is "single" too and I pray that she and some girlfriends can dress up like little beauties and go together to the prom. They will have much more fun!
The dress is beautiful.
Love,
Beth
Great dress!!!
Great rainbow!!
Poor Brittany :(
Young love can be so cruel :(
Some day, that young man will realize what he walked away from and kick himself. Praying that Brittany will find FUN at the prom, with or without a guy. When the right one comes along, he will have been well worth the wait, and she deserves someone who will cherish her. And that dress? Is gorgeous! Great find....
Poor Brittany, but the boy sounds like he is very immature. I know the right "Prince" will come along soon enough.
Her dress is GORGEOUS. I can't wait to see her all dolled up for the prom.
Hope you have a great Monday!♥
happy blue monday to you.. sorry to hear its probably a sad blue monday for your daughter. i dont quite understand what the issue is but it just goes to show what a jerk guys can be, and what NOT to want in a man. i once needed a dress to wear to my hubby's firm's annual dinner and was so sick of spending 200$ plus on dresses i ended up only wearing once. so i went to a consignment store and foudn the most amazing green velvet dress for thirty bucks and i was soooo happy!!!! i love consignment shops! :)
Well, let me just say the dress is gorgeous. Great score there.
Second, Brittany will be beautiful when she attends the prom with her new date!! Good bye to that dude.
Great dress and beautiful pictures with the rainbow.
Poor Brittany.
Wib.
This post makes me all giddy just thinking about prom! I LOVED prom when i was in high school...how fun that you ladies got to be together for the day and found the perfect dress! Its gorgeous!
And that dude quite obviously wasn't worth Brittany's time!
The dress is beautiful...Tell your daughter to go to prom with a group of girlfriends, she will have much more fun...There are some wonderful young men out there, so good riddance to the "duds".
Prom dresses are "memory makers".
Becky
Oh man... what a jerk! Glad to hear your daughter is strong because most girls would be a blubbering mess!!! ugh - jerk!
The dress is gorgeous though - he's going to eat his heart out when he sees her!
Hi April...what an immature brat of a guy he was...but, the good thing is Brittany has a beautiful dress to wear now & also again at college...I hope she holds her head high & knows she is all the better for it... ;-) Bo
That is a beautiful dress. I can't wait to see the pictures of her.
I can't believe that guy! What a creep! I think that she is better off without him. She deserves better!
I think it's so cool that I get to follow the goings-on of a real-life Prom!!! In my day (!!!) we had what we called a 'Formal', and I wore a Royal Blue Satin dress with foofy sleeves and a twirly skirt and I loved it! And, I didn't have a date to go with me, 'cos my boyfriend of the time was 4 years older than me and not allowed to go!!! And too right! And I had the BEST time. It was the 80's, after all - that music! I hope you all enjoy the lead-up to Brittany's Prom, and that she has a wonderful, wonderful night regardless of her Facebook relationship status!!! She's such a beautiful girl and has the world at her feet. She'll have eye-balls popping in that gorgeous dress too! (What a lovely shop lady, to have sent you away from her dress to somewhere she knew you needed to go!!! That's a rare quality in someone trying to sell something...) So, I'm looking forward to further updates on this magical event...
April,
The dress will be lovely on your precious daughter. And the rainbow picture is so beautiful..what a lovely promise too!
Happy Monday, my friend.
April, that story is just unbelievable... to be so controlling to break up over a prom dress? You're right. It's an answer to prayer. I hope she goes to the prom and looks stunning in that dress. It's gorgeous. He will be eating his heart out. Now we need to pray that some wonderful young man asks her to go with him. :-)
Happy Blue Monday...
XO,
Sheila :-)
Such a lovely dress. Poor Brittany, but I know God has better plans for her. I love you my friend.
I dread the dating years. We have a few years yet, but I am already praying for wisdom! :)
The dress is lovely! I love deals.
*Swap is next week!!!
The dress is beautiful. I'm glad your daughter found out before prom that this young man was not worth her attention. Blessings...
For some reason I thought he broke up with her a few weeks ago. Poor thing. He changed his facebook status? He is so JUNIOR HIGH! What in the world. She will find a way better date for the prom and she is going to look like a million bucks! What a pretty dress.
pretty dress. i can't wait to see the prom pictures- make sure you take a picture of the back too! sounds like that boyfriend needed to go! boys are so crappy sometimes!
Wow, talk about a young man with issues! I am happy to hear your daughter is doing fine. You've done a good job raising her to make her the confident young woman she is today.
Happy Blue Monday! That dress looks rather pretty and egads on that boy. I hope she realizes it's that boys' issue and not hers. Hugs
What a jerk!
I bet he'll regret it once he sees her having fun with her NEW prom date in that gorgeous dress!! :)
That boy! My goodness-good riddance to that, Brit!
So excited about the dress-and you wil find the perfect friend/ or guy to go with it-but hopefully not that one...
Pretty dress. I can't wait to see pics of her in it on prom night.
And that poor girl. She's having a time in the boy department, huh? (I wish my prayers would be answered in that way too!!)
Wow, what a jerk. For him to do that over the phone shows his personality, and she is obviously SO much better off without him. I've went through break-up stuff with one of my sons twice now. Not fun. Geesh, it makes ME feel like I'm in HS again. Which was bad enough the first time.
The dress is beautiful and I'm sure she will be too:)
Thanks for visiting my blog, via Pam. I'd really like to BE the person she thinks I am!
As for Brittany, she's so fortunate to have found out about this young man now rather than later. God is good, even when man isn't.
Woh...I didn't see that ending coming. I was enjoying the shopping and the lovely dress. Oh well, he's just not a good guy thats for sure.

I feel so bad for Brittany but hope she recovers from this break-up soon. We went through this with my daughter too. They just don't realize the heartache that boys can bring and why do they feel like they "need" a boyfriend anyway. It was an ongoing argument around here. Now that my daughter is 20 she has matured in her thinking. She hasn't had a steady boyfriend in over a year and is much happier. She is putting her efforts where they should be...in her school studies.
The dress is beautiful by the way!
I'm so sorry that Brittany had to experience that after such a lovely day. The dress is lovely and I know it will be beautiful on her.
We love our son's current girlfriend but have definitely been in the position of having to pray one out of his life. I know how you feel - sad that your child has to experience that kind of pain, but relieved at the same time. Growing up is hard on the kids and possibly even harder on the parents.
Hi April
What a RAT. Brittany is well rid of him. What a horrible thing to do. I am sure when he sees her in that beautiful dress at the prom he will be kicking himself.
I am glad you 3 girls enjoyed your shopping trip. Its sounds like an amazing shop to visit.
Thanks for sharing the gorgeous rainbow picture.
Happy Blue Monday.
Lindsay
That's a very lovely dress. I'm certain that another boy will come along and sweep her off her feet; thank goodness her ex-boyfriend didn't jerk her around at the last minute right before prom.
Thanks for stopping by to see me☺
Bless her heart - I wouldn't go back to those years for anything! And in fact I'm glad my daughter is out of them too. So cruel for him to act that way, but like you say, she's definitely better off without him. Still hurts at that age though.
And the dress is gorgeous!
Hi April!
Oh, I am so sorry about your daughter. That boy is crazy. Who breaks up over facebook? So rude!
I love reading your posts. I lost a follower today too. Who knows why?
You always bring a smile to my face!
Jen
Oh - I feel so bad for your daughter. The dress is beautiful and I hope that she finds another date. I loved the way in which you told the story. Happy Blue Monday!
Sweetie
Poor Brittany! I know it's for the best but it's so sad to see them with broken hearts. Tell her the dress is beautiful and to go with a group of friends!
Have a wonderful night!
Kim
A very pretty dress, that doesn't need a date!
I came over from SITS. I wanted to belatedly congratulate you on being a Featured Blogger the other day! It's a lovely blog you have!
- Margaret
Happy Blue Monday!
Love the blue dress!
Susan
That blue dress was the perfect post for blue Monday!
I love your new profile picture too.
I feel bad for Brittany. Break ups aren't easy... but she will find someone much better!
What a great dress and with a great story.
Ask B, if she wants me to hunt him down and kick him in the shins!
Don't be bummed at all, when you lose one follower, you usually gain another two!!
You will never lose me. Promise.
April, so sorry that your daughter experienced such a depressing ordeal with this young man., she's better off without him. I'm sure she'll look beautiful in the BLUE dress and just maybe, someone that is worthy of her will come into her life. ~CC Catherine from "Catherine de th`e Cups"
Hey! What a great dress! And lovely story to go with it !! Wouldn't worry about your "lost" followers, I stressed about mine, then found out they were still following, they had just gone private, so they on't show on your page.
Hey facebook has a lot to answer for! I'm not a fan! Good riddance by the sounds of it!
..x..
That dress is beautiful - I just love that shade of blue! I feel so bad for Brittany - but it sounds like that guy wasn't the one for her - especially acting so selfishly and immaturely! No boyfriend or girlfriend should get mad at each other because they are spending time with their family.
April,
I was so psyched to hear the first part of your post since Abby will be going to prom on May 2nd. She has been to a ton of dances and it definately is not a picnic shopping with her.
I almost cried reading the 2nd part. He is an idiot. I don't think he is ever going to have a decent relationship if this is the kind of guy he is. Let Brittany read all these comments, it may lift her spirits.
Sorry about losing the followers. The same advice to Brittany holds true for you: Don't take it personally. Lots of people love you!!
xoxo
Janie
Goodness...didn't see that one comin' - I was so excited about the perfect dress! Give Brittany a hug for us...
Hi April,
What a jerk. Your daughter doesn't need him!
I lost 2 followers today too. I try not to take it personally...maybe someone has decided they don't like that feature. I rarely use it, but it is nice to have. I love my blogroll best!
Very pretty dress!
Karen
pretty dress! Sorry to hear about the boyfriend not worthy of mentioning!
I haven't read the details yet but I heard that blogger's "follower" list links are all messed up so people look like they are loosing followers but aren't really?? I will have to read it... You haven't lost me as a follower!
What a beautiful color blue! I know your daughter is disappointed right now but your feelings as a parent are probably right on. It does sound like the Lord is workng something out and is actually answering your prayers. I'm sure He has the absolute best in mind for your daughter! She'll make some lovely memories in that dress yet!
Elaine :)
April....
Love the dress! I am sure Brittany will find another guy that will be even better than the others...God knows what he is doing and it's his lost not hers. She can find another date I am sure in no time. Great that you found a prom dress for that price...when Tabitha was in high school they didn't sell these at consignment shops...it was word of mouth and sometimes we would be late and end up having to buy ours at the store and oh my goodness I had to work overtime to get those dresses...I remember one year she was asked to 3 different ones...She thought she was going to get three new ones and nope she sure didn't...I think I will have to do a post on her proms later when it starts with prom time...thanks for the post idea and I will be sure to credit you for this.
As far as followers I am surprise I still have friends coming by since I have been out of the loop...just have not gotten back into anything since all this with my son and then again blah feeling. You know sometimes winter time makes me feel like that...will be so ready for spring so I can come alive again.
Well I am still hanging here and have no plans of leaving you...maybe one of these days when I get up that way we can meet.
Sorry I was running off at the mouth. Have a great week!
My goodness- I'm glad that loser is out of the picture!!
I'm sure Brittany will have NO TROUBLE finding another date!
