Wednesday Hodgepodge

Now that the craziness involved with Thanksgiving has passed, I'm ready to hop right back in for Hodgepodge! Please consider joining in on all the fun with us! If you're interested, just click on the button and it will take you to Joyce's blog where you'll find a list of questions. Answer them on your own blog and link up. There really is nothing to it.

1.  According to Oxford Dictionaries, the 2013 word of the year is 'selfie'. Your thoughts? When did you last take a selfie? Do you post them online somewhere?  Do you prefer to be in front of the camera or behind the lens? Nope...not a fan of selfies. I feel so silly when I attempt to take pictures of myself. Plus, I very rarely like the outcome. I never post selfies. I'd much rather be behind the lens of the camera, instead of in front.

2.  Will you send out Christmas cards this year?  If so, are they ready to go?  If not, are you glad or sad about leaving that tradition behind?  I debated long and hard about this, but I decided to bite the bullet and continue on with sending them out. We've done photo cards for quite a few years and I have one saved from each year in my hope chest. I want the girls to be able to look at them one day when Chris and I are nothing more than a memory. I placed my order for them on Monday and they've already been shipped. Once they arrive, I'll put them in the mail and be done! One thing I don't plan to include this year is our annual newsletter. I just don't have it in me to sit down, compose it, and print them all out.

3.  Do you trust easily? Yes, probably much too easily at times. Unfortunately, I've been burned because of it, so I've had to learn a few lessons the hard way.

4.   Pine-cinnamon-peppermint-vanilla (as in sugar cookie)-of those listed, which is your favorite December scent? There's just something about the smell of cinnamon that makes me think of Christmas, so that's definitely my pick.

5.   Did you do more talking than listening yesterday?  Was that by choice or necessity? I'd have to say more listening. My girls both talked to me about some things they needed advice about. I just sat and listened and offered my advice when asked. I'd say it probably was more out of choice...I love being there for my girls.

6.  What's the last song that got stuck in your head? Sorry if it's back there now. ;)  I've been a fan of the Zac Brown Band for awhile and this song is one that I sing often these days. Such sweet lyrics and video, being that I'm a hopeless romantic!

Another song that's a favorite of mine during Christmas is "A Strange Way to Save the World" by 4Him. Rascal Flatts sang it the other night on a Christmas TV special and it's been in my head ever since. The lyrics really get to my heart because I keep thinking how grateful I am that Jesus was born and that He saved me.

7.  Which world explorer (in the whole history of the world) would you most like to have traveled with and why? I'm going with Hernado de Soto. Why, you might ask? Well, he was a Spanish Conquistador who explored what is now Georgia, Florida, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and my home state of Arkansas. He died in 1542 at the age of 46 on the western banks of the Mississippi River. I remember learning about him when I was in school and found his explorations to be fascinating. I would love to see what all those states that I'm so familiar with looked like back then.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. Chris should be so proud of all the money I saved him by getting a lot of my Christmas shopping done on Cyber Monday. I'm close to being done! Yay, me! Did you find any good bargains on Cyber Monday?  Also, just a quick reminder...I'm having another giveaway either tomorrow or Friday, so be watching for the announcement!

I've got a big part of my shopping done too. Did it online, but not on Cyber Monday. I forgot there was such a thing and had already done it on Friday. haha

I love "Sweet Annie" too. ZBB is a favorite by sometimes I have a hard time looking at ZB. He looks "stressed" when he sings! ha Wondering how the daughter's BF situation is going...? I've got most my shopping done - but now starts the wrapping!

I'm a big Zac Brown fan, and love that song especially. Free is one of my favorite songs of all time. I did a little shopping Monday, but not a lot. There are still great deals online though, and I'm doing most of my shopping that way. I dislike the crowds and the parking lots especially.

That video of you favorite Christmas song...are the clips from The Nativity Story? Seems they are...at least for the most part. I haven't seen that movie in a long time, will have to pull the DVD out tonight.

Loved reading about your choice of explorer...how you remember from school and the area he explored becoming your part of the world. Well done.

April, as for the lens on my camera. The camera is a Nikon Cool Pix...the lens is attached with an automatic zoom. Hope that helps. It really DOES a super job with photos...without any attaching zoom lens and tripods.

You take beautiful pictures so I can see why you want to be behind the lens. I've only done a little shopping and nothing on Monday. I think lunchtime today is online shopping time!

I love Sweet Annie. Did you know the video was shot at the real wedding of his band member, Coy Bowles? I thought that was cool. Have a great week!

I wish I would have had more time to do some Cyber Monday shopping but I was so busy that day. Maybe, next year! Good for you for getting your shopping almost done. Have a great week.

I had not heard "A Strange Way to Save the World" but so enjoyed listening to it. Thanks for sharing. I am finished with my shopping as well. Not much done this year as we give our grands money. No way for this grandmother to please all six girls.

I think shopping on-line is the way to go! I did almost all of my shopping that way, but didn't wait until Cyber Monday.

I really enjoyed the country music Christmas Special the other night. Lots of great music!

Zac Brown Band is one of my favorites! Several of their songs are among my all-time favorites.

I have done a lot of my shopping on line, and have for a few years now. Not sure if I got any real "bargains" but I am happy with the things showing up at the front door!

I enjoyed your Hodgepodge answers!

So far, I have done all my shopping online.
And I absolutely love the song, Strange Way to Save the World. It also reminds me of another favorite - The Way He Came. How I love thinking of the love and humility of our Lord Jesus.

My selfies never turn out! I will be sending cards if I ever get around to starting them. I'm not done shopping yet but I did save some money online, it's my favorite way to shop.
