So glad to have the opportunity to participate in Wednesday Hodgepodge this week! Just pay Joyce a visit, link up, and play along! Alright...time to answer the questions!
1. What's something you miss about the 80's? If you're too young to miss the 80's, what about the 90's?
For me, the 80's were a fun and memorable decade. I graduated from high school in 1982, probably about the time some of you were born...YIKES! I miss disco, pop, rock-n-roll and, of course, my high school friends. We'd go 'cruising' down Central Avenue in Hot Springs, AR. nearly every Friday night with our car windows rolled down and our music blaring. We didn't have a care in the world...no worries weighing on our shoulders. We were footloose and fancy free! Then, I graduated from undergrad. school in 1986 and from grad. school in 1987. I learned so much about myself during those years as I became independent from my parents. I found out what I could accomplish with hard work and dedication...and it felt GOOD! I suffered a few heartbreaks along the way, but I never lost faith that love would find its way...and it did. I went out on a blind date with Chris in December of 1988. Just 3 months later, we were engaged and 7 months after that, we got married. I miss being young newlyweds and learning how to make it, just the two of us. We bought our first house in Knoxville, TN., a brand new 1,200 sq. ft. rancher that we were so proud of! We spent several memorable years there and got our first dog, a Shih-Tzu named Gizmo. Bittersweet memories, for sure!
2. Do you have a library card? If so, how often do you visit? I haven't owned a library card since we lived in Collierville, TN. 7+ years ago. I used to take the girls to the library weekly when they were younger. We'd go for story time and I'd let them check out about 5 books each.
3. What's the secret to success? For me, it's having faith in God that He has a plan for my life and just trusting in Him. So many times, I've wanted to toss in the towel, but I knew in my heart that God wanted me to keep moving forward with tenacity and a deep-rooted belief that everything would work out in His own timing. I am one to not give up on anything if I want it badly enough.
4. This is National Backyard Games Week...what's your favorite backyard game? Even though I obviously don't have the height for it, I love a good game of volleyball! I have a pretty mean serve, I'm not going to lie.
5. If I dropped by today, what would I find on your coffee table? Let's see, you'd find two coasters, a candle, a small vase, and a metal bowl of decorative balls. Exciting, I know.
6. Do you own a bicycle? When we the last time you rode a bicycle? Is that something you enjoy? We used to own bicycles, but got rid of them a couple of years ago. The road we live on isn't conducive for bike riding...too hilly. The last time I rode a bicycle was when Chris and I went to Vail, CO. with his former company about 6 years ago. We went on a beautiful ride going downhill the entire way...and we were flying! I was so afraid I was going to crash and burn, but I survived and it was definitely worth it!
7. What's your favorite cheese? I'm easy...American, plain and simple.
8. Insert your own random though here. After sitting at the doctor's office for 2 hours yesterday morning, I finally got seen. I was given a steroid shot in the bum (OUCH!), a new kind of nasal spray, and a prescription for Amoxil. I still have a little bit of congestion, but I do believe I'm on the road to recovery. Thanks for all of your well wishes! Then, when I got home, my dermatologist called to inform me that my biopsy showed an aggressive form of basal cell carcinoma, so I won't be able to use the cream, Zyclara, afterall. It's the kind that can grow deeper below the surface of the skin. He wants to see me in 6 weeks to see how it's healing and he most likely will have to scrap it down some more or cut it out. I'm hopeful it won't get to that point, but we'll see. On a much lighter note, yesterday, Brittany landed a volunteer internship with the Atlanta Falcons Physical Therapy Center. Her first day is Friday and she'll be working from 8 AM until 6 PM. She is so excited! She'll be seeing a variety of patients and she'll gain some great experience for future employment. Also, today is Abby's last day of her freshman year of high school. She was practically skipping when she walked out the door this morning. No more rising at 5 AM...WOO HOO! Let the summer begin!

Goodness, lots going on at your house. I hope you feel better and the skin issue heals without needing further procedure. Congrats to your daughter! Sounds like a fun internship!
These were great, April! I graduated from HS in '87, so I wasn't too far behind you! :)
Glad you're feeling better, but I'll be praying about your skin cancer~ very scary stuff.
Well let's just hope and pray that your skin carcinoma heals on it's own and no scraping to get rid of it!! Brittany and Abby are well on their way!! Congrats to them both. Oh and back up a bit....that steroid shot, seriously, a power of suggestion here ---I can feel the 'ouch'!!
Oh and American cheese...a grilled cheese sounds heavenly right about now. And as you know, I lived in Colorado, so biking down hill and 'flying'....I know just what you mean.
I can not believe that poor girl has to get up at 5! That is so insanely early! I hope her summer is awesome as can be!
I would be scared about riding a bike down a lot of hills since I haven't ridden in such a long time!
I love your posts : ) You always make me smile. Your first dogs name was adorable!

I enjoyed your memories from the 80's, those were the days!
Hope you feel better soon, and your skin issue will soon be resolved.
Sounds like your family is bound to have a good summer...
Your 80s decade is much like my 70s decade with the graduation, college, grad school- although that graduation trickled into 1981- LOL Doctors around here are scary people. Hope you have good ones!
Hugs & prayers about your biopsy! I'm sure it will be OK!
You aren't that much older than I am - I graduated H.S. in '85! Those were very interesting years, lol!
Enjoy the rest of your week!
Hope you are feeling better soon. I hope you let your daughter sleep in after getting up at 5 all school year ;)
Well of course you had to name your first dog "Gizmo" - Gremlins was a classic 80s movie! :-)
Congrats to your daughter on her new job and on the other daughter for finishing her freshman year. She is now a Sophomore!
Glad to hear you are feeling better and praying God will take care of the carcinoma spot!
So ... how did you get back UP that hill? ;-)
Praying that your skin cancer will heal up quickly with no additional treatment needed.
Sounds like an exciting summer for your girls!
Sounds like a fun internship for your daughter! What does your younger daughter have planned for the summer?
April, definitely sending prayers that the basal cell carcinoma heals without a surgical procedure!
I used to take mt nieces to the library when they were with me on weekends. We had story time or another activity on Saturday and they got to check out 2 books each for reading time when we got home.
oh, we just passed each other in Knoxville - I lived there from 1981 til May 1988 when my family temporarily moved to Germany (but they came back, & my parents and brother live in Knoxville now! Love East Tennessee!! Go Vols ;) ).
Hope and pray your skin issue will heal - and you'll be feeling well in general SOON!!
You did so much in the 80's! It was a lot to pack into a decade. Praying for skin cancer and great answer on #3.
I'll pray about the skin cancer April.
I'm excited for you that you get to sleep in, I really understand what that means being I have a 3 year old that wakes me at all hours!
Feel better soon!
The 80s were certainly full of life altering events for you, a time for celebration! Good luck with the dermatologist.
Wow - the 80s were great years for you! Lots of memories :) Glad you're on the road to recovery... hope you get better and better! :)
We are to hilly too but I still want one. Glad your starting to feel better and I will be praying for you. Congratulations on Brittany's volunteer internship.
Enjoy your summer!
Loved reading your 80's memories. My hubby graduated from high school in 82 (he's six years older than me), and I graduated from high school in '88. We got married in '89 and the rest is history.
By the way, I just thought I'd tell you that you would be proud to know that I'm watching The Bachelorette. Yes. I know. I said I wouldn't. I think of you EACH WEEK!! LOL
Love your answer to the success question.
Wow those are long hours for a volunteer internship. I'm assumming since it's volunteer it's without pay, right? Drat.
It will look good on her resume!
Praying the cancer thing behaves and goes away. :)
I liked your answer #3 a lot!
