One thing we enjoy doing in our house is having movie night every weekend. If Abby doesn't have any plans with her friends, she'll watch with us, otherwise, it's just the two of us old married folks. Chris always makes his yummy popcorn , then we head down to the basement and get all comfy in our recliners. Well, two weekends ago, we watched "Water For Elephants". Have you seen it? I have to be honest, I was a little unsure as to whether I was going to like it or not. Well, my eyes were glued to the TV screen the entire time...I loved it! It was such a beautiful story about forbidden love. Need I add that Robert Pattison stars in it...have mercy! Chris even enjoyed it...so it was a double win! I give it two thumbs up all the way!
Now, this weekend, we watched "The Fast Five". I felt that I owed Chris an action flick since I convinced him to watch a love story with me. Well, it started out pretty good with fast cars, speeding trains, and bombs exploding...plenty of excitement! Then, about an hour into it, I nodded off and dozed for the remainder of the movie. I just didn't care for it, at all. I couldn't really follow the plot, which was weak, at best. So, I have to give it two thumbs down.
This coming weekend, we'll be watching "Mr. Popper's Penguins". I'm in the mood for a funny movie and I'm hoping it won't let me down. Usually, anything starring Jim Carrey is bound to make you bust a gut. So, I say, bring it on! Afterall, laughter IS the best medicine!

Thanks for the reviews. Always helpful in deciding what to watch.
Having just finishing the book, Water for Elephants is my next movie to be sent to me on Netflix! Cant wait!!!
Loved the book "water for elephants." The movie wasn't bad either. I hated Mr. Popper's Penguins. I liked that book so maybe why I was disappointed. We love movies too!
Water for elephants was really good, I want too see Mr. Poppers Penguins.
I will be in the minority on this one... I HATE love stories! I would choose the action, drama, suspense and even an ELMO movie before a love story. I am still trying to find out what is wrong with me.
But I do love Ms. Witherspoon tho!
Mr. Poppers Penguins was a great movie! My sister and I rented it to watch and we both really liked it!
I haven't seen any of those movies yet. But I really want to see Mr. Popper's Penguins. The other 2 I'm not too sure about yet.
I started to read Water For Elephants but it didn't grab my attention right away so I stopped. I really didn't give it a fair shot, so I really need to pick it up again. And the movie looks terrific...a little more cut to the action.
Sounds like a nice way to spend a weekend night! Now, if I can get hubby off of CNN!
XO,
Jane
Well, ladies...I checked into "Mr. Popper's Penguins"...guess I didn't realize that it's such a kiddie movie. It didn't get very good reviews on Netflix, so I removed it from our list. So, back to the drawing board I go to try and find a movie we can all enjoy. :)
Yes, I love Water for Elephants. I read the book first and it was really good. Did you read the book?
I would never think to watch the Elephant movie, but will now! Thanks for the great review. The other one looks like I would be asleep in 5 minutes! I'm known for falling asleep during practically ANY movie around here!
Something so crazy, on several different blogs today I have seen people post that they saw Mr. Popper's Penguins this weekend! I didn't even know what it was so I had to look it up! Just a funny coincidence I guess.
Thanks for the pop in on my blog, I appreciate the comments. Love your valentine themed blog- it's beautiful!

We haven't see either of those movies. I must admit, I usually (like always) fall asleep during the action movies. Ha.
I loved MR. Popper's Penguins! It's so cute! I can't wait for Lady and the Tramp to come out on DVD!
I LOved Water for Elephants too! Robert Pattinson is so .... lovely! :)
I don't blame you on the action movie, those kind of shows lose my attention fast!
I loved Water for Elephants! I haven't seen Fast Five. It doesn't look appealing to me either.
Mr. Popper's Penguins was really cute!
By the way, there is an award for you on my blog today. ;)
I love watching movies, but the hubby and I hardly ever agree on what constitutes a good movie. And the kids? It's impossible to find a movie that seven kids, ranging from 4-18 will all agree to watch. I'm a lone movie watcher.
I loved the book Water for Elephants so I am sure I would dig the movie as well! The book was so good! : )
I have yet to see Water for elephants may have to check it out. We did watch Mr.Poppers Pinguins, but then again Makayla is 11. Another good one is Dolphin Tale.
