Wednesday Hodgepodge

Sure have missed participating in Hodgepodge over the past couple of months. Life gets in the way sometimes, as we all know. If you'd like to join in, simply answer the questions on your own blog and link up.

1.  The first day of summer rolls in later this week. What are ten things you'd put on your list of quintessential summer activities? Will you manage to try all ten this summer? 1. Go to a matinee movie. 2. Pick strawberries. 3. Swim in the ocean or lake. 4. Eat watermelon. 5.  Make homemade ice cream. 6. Look at the stars from our back deck. 7. Go white water rafting. 8. Take a hike in the mountains. 9. Grow wildflowers. 10. Go boating. Yes, I should have the opportunity to do most of these this summer.

2. Do you collect seashells when you're at the beach? What do you do with them once you get them home? What's your favorite place to comb for seashells? How many of these 'best beaches for hunting seashells' have you visited? Which one would you most like to visit?  I love walking along the beach and looking for pretty or unique seashells. I have a Mason jar that I've filled with some my favorite shells that I've collected over the years. I've only visited the Bahamas and Sanibel Island on the list, which I highly recommend! The one I'd most like to visit would be Shipwreck Beach as we're heading to Hawaii in July.

Calvert Cliffs State Park (Maryland), Jeffrey's Bay (South Africa), Sanibel Island (Florida), Shipwreck Beach (Lanai Hawaii), Oracoke Island (North Carolina), Galveston Island (Texas), the Bahamas

3.  At a snail's pace, shell out money, come out of your shell, go back into your shell, drop a bombshell, happy as a clam, clam up...which 'shell' phrase could most recently be applied to some event or circumstance in your life? Explain. I'm going with 'shell our money' because we're close to booking an all-inclusive wedding venue for Brittany and her fiancĂ©, David.

4.  What summer activity do you dislike? Why?  I love summer, but one thing I can't stand is sitting on a beach and getting covered in sand.

5.  What's something you see as quickly becoming obsolete? Does that bother you? Human conversation. Cell phones have taken over the world. I can't tell you the times I've been in a restaurant, for example, and I see a couple or a family...all of whom are on their phones...and not one is engaging in actual conversation. I find that to be very sad and disturbing. Put your phones down, people!

6.  Insert your own random thought here.  Chris is Quintera, Mexico on business. I've been nervous about him going there ever since one of his golfing buddies told him that whenever he's had to travel to that part of the country, he's taken bodyguards and travels in an armoured vehicle because of the dangerous environment. Well, yesterday afternoon, I received a text message from Chris saying that the car he was riding in to his sales call got robbed. That's all I knew for well over a couple of hours as he wasn't reading or responding to my texts. I was worried sick about him. He, finally, let me know that he was alright. Said he and the other two men (Mexicans) he was with were advised not to leave anything of value in their car while they were on the sales call, so they made sure to take their phones and laptops inside with them. When they got done with their car, thieves had taken the rear-view and side mirrors from the car, so they had to go to a local dealership to have them replaced. It could have been so much worse and I'm thankful that it wasn't. He will be down there until Friday morning...I'll be relieved to have him home.

Yikes! My first husband had to travel to Mexico on business and it wasn't good way back then. Alas, things have gotten worse and worse. What a nightmare waiting to hear from him.

Good exciting times with the wedding preps!

Have a very happy summer, April. May you tick off every item from your fun list.

Oh my goodness! I am so glad your husband is all right. I would have been worried sick about that, too. Thank God! I think the all inclusive wedding venue sounds like a great deal. It would certainly help with all the details of weddings. It's amazing all that goes into a wedding these days. Mine was much simpler 47 years ago. Wow! Where does time go?

Yikes! I will be praying for your husband's business to go well and for him to get back home safely. I used to want to go to Mexico, but not these days.

Oh no! That's terrible about your husband. Prayers for his safe return. :) I forgot to add watermelon to my list. Of course that's a summer MUST. What was I thinking?

Sounds like a fun summer! Hooray for Hawaii in July. I agree 100%, put those phones down. Yep that is us with Adam and Gabby's wedding in November in Cancun and we are also paying for Amber and Dylan. I can't believe how much all-inclusive is. We are all going for 5 nights. We finally got it all booked! So glad that Chris is okay.

Whoa. That's a terrifying business trip. I don't mind sitting on the beach and getting sand on me as long as I am first to get in the shower when we get home. And as long as no one tracks it into my house. :) Shell out some money is right, girl! Weddings are not inexpensive. Though they can be reasonable if you're careful. We've had two and I just think most of it has become a racket but we did have fun. Dancing at a daughter's wedding is just wonderful. I am looking forward to reading about all of it!

Oh, my goodness! I'm glad things weren't any worse for your hubby, but I know you must have been frantic! I hope his travels don't lead him there very often!
I, too, hate getting covered in sand at the beach!
Lucky you...heading to Hawaii :)

Oh my goodness...how scary! Glad your hubby was OK. And yes weddings and money go hand in hand, lol. But soo worth it in the end. Totally agree with you on number 5!

How awful for your husband! But so thankful he was okay. My brother-in-law is in Mexico for work this week, but I think the area he's in is pretty safe. He's been there previously.

Have a wonderful summer and enjoy checking off your summer list!

Oh my goodness! How scary for you and your husband! I cannot believe how crazy this world has gotten! When we went to our son's graduation from Basic Training last year (it was in San Antonio), I heard about a lot of people's rental cars getting broken into. People had ALL of their stuff stolen, including their Airmen's uniform pieces and photos from graduation. I just do not get it.

By the way, congratulations on your girl's engagement! I am so very excited for all of you and am so thrilled that she found the man of her dreams!

P.S. Can I be a flower girl? I'd love to go to that resort with y'all! Happy days!

Wow, you have a lot coming down the pike........a trip to Hawaii and a wedding. How exciting! I can't wait to hear about the wedding plans. So glad that Chris is okay, it is just so scary these days. Happy rest of the week!

I know what you mean about human conversation, my brother is always on his phone when we go out to eat. It used to drive my mother crazy, now that she's got a smartphone, I feel she's always on hers.
Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting.

Yikes, I bet you'll be glad to have your husband safe at home again! I had quite an experience in Mexico - 26 hours with the head of the federal police, which I once wrote about in a blog post. Scary time. Always so reassuring to be back on U.S. soil! Hope you have a pleasant time of wedding planning!

Oh my goodness, how scary! I don't even know what to think about the world we are living in today. Often, I wonder how long Jesus will tarry. I so glad to hear that they were unharmed. How exciting...a wedding to plan! Enjoy the rest of your week!

My husband had a secret government clearance back in the early 70's. He worked on the missile program. When he would travel on business, I was always afraid of a hijacking. Fortunately, nothing ever happened. Glad your hubby is OK.

I can imagine that you were so worried about your husband. We here in Brussels had again a terrorist attack fortunately without victims but it was at the central station ! Nowadays you don't know anymore where it's safe !

I hope that your husband has made it safely home. How scary!

I agree 100% with your response to #5. It is very sad that people are becoming more and more disconnected. If all they are going to do is stare at their phones and not interact, what is the point in going out together? I don't get it either.

Have a blessed weekend. :)
