Most of Friday and Saturday were centered on the festivities of a Quinceanera that was given in honor of one of Abby's best friends, Elina. A Quinceanera is s celebration of Latina womanhood that takes place when a girl turns 15. It has very significant meaning and it highlights God, family, friends, music, food, and dance. On Friday night, Elina had Abby and a couple more of her close friends over to hang out for awhile. Then, on Saturday, Abby had one of their mutual best friends, Miranda, over to our house in the late afternoon because they had planned to go to the party together.
Here they are all dressed up...
The party went from 5 PM until 11 PM. When Abby got home, I sat up with her for a little while to hear all the details. Abby had created a Powerpoint presentation for Elina and her family to show during the party since no one in her family knew how to do it. She scanned about 60 pictures and put them to the song "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman. I wish I could have seen it as I don't think there was a dry eye in the room! Abby said that Elina and her daddy had their first dance together, then she danced with each of her 3 brothers. Her mom read a poem that she'd written for her that talked about how Elina was a gift from God. Abby said, "Mom, it was so sad and sweet." So, sounds like it was a wonderful and memorable celebration that I'm sure Elina won't soon forget.
Abby's last words to me before we called it a night were, "You know, Mom, we should start planning my Sweet 16 party." Even though it's 7 months away, I'm sure she got all kinds of ideas from Elina's party. That girl of mine sure keeps me on my toes!
Happy Monday, everyone!

Lindsey's has gone to a few of these. It's never to early to start planning for her party!! Lindsey didn't want a sweet sixteen just went out to dinner with a few girls which was fine by me. Have a good week.
My husband and daughter just danced to that song at our daughters wedding! Very special.
That Abby of yours is gifted AND beautiful~
That sounds like a lovely party.
I can't believe Abby is going to be 16 already! Time flies! It sounds like she had a wonderful time and both girls look so pretty!
XO,
Jane
Ahh - how sweet of Abby to put together such a touching powerpoint... & to have Steven Curtis Chapman on top of it? couldnt go wrong! :)
Oh lady... have fun.. you'll probably need to start that planning soon... sorry to say! ;)
Sounds like everyone had fun and what a nice way to let a girl that she is a gift from God
So sweet! It sounds like a wonderful party. I would love to attend one, if only for the food. ;)
My cousin, Pedro, is from Mexico and he threw his little sister's Quinceanera. It sounded wonderful and very elaborate.
How sweet of Abby to make that Powerpoint for them. Precious!
Stephen Curtis Chapman singing "cinderella" was a perfect choice. Good luck planning Abby's 16th birthday party.
Working at Hallmark years ago is when I had first heard about the celebration Quinceanera for a 15 years old. I was pretty surprised when many people would tell us how they are almost like a wedding party. Glad she got to experience that and had a good time.
How exciting to plan your daughter's Sweet 16 party! We were so fortunate and our daughter didn't want one! Oh we surprised with a small party at church after youth group! That movie sounds good but now you have me wondering!! Enjoy!
What a lovely celebration and I'm quite sure you will come up with just as lovely a celebration for Abby. Oh, to be 16 again! I cannot even imagine it! :o) Happy week to you!
How fun to have been a part of that experience. Every girl deserves a special day like that doesn't she?!
Yes, this is a VERY big deal for Hispanic cultures!!! I have a friend from Puerto Rico, and she still remembers hers! She was a little sad that she only had boys, because she wanted to plan one for her own daughter! It's much more family-oriented than the traditional Sweet 16 parties American girls do. Perhaps Abbey will want to plan hers that way??
Both girls look amazing, and so grown up!
I love planning parties!
What a sweet thing. I've never heard of it before. I would have been all over something like that at that age.
The pollen has been wreaking havoc on the allergies here at my house too. Just came from a doctor's appointment for Dracen. He and I have them the worst!
Thank you for the lovely comment on my blog, Dream Custom Artwork. I appreciate you helping to make my SITS day so special! I enjoyed my visit here and will be back to read more soon!
