For the past week or so, our 11 year old dachshund, Maddie, hasn't been feeling like herself. She's been walking with a bit of a limp. Seems like her right leg has been ailing her and it's had us very worried. That's what always breaks my heart with animals...when they hurt, they can't tell you exactly where the "tender spot" is located. So, even though this isn't the best time, financially, to be taking her to see the vet, we felt we had no choice because she's part of our family and it's our obligation to make sure she's alright. Afterall, who could resist a face like this with those forlorn eyes?

The vet felt all over her body from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail. She even went so far as to brag that Maddie was the "best dachshund she's ever treated". You can bet she earned a dog treat for that one! The doctor examined her right paw, the one that's been troubling her. She removed a piece of gravel that had become embedded between her pads. She said that could very well explain the limp, but said it's also quite possible that she suffers from some arthritis. She told us to give Maddie a Bufferin every day for discomfort. We're just so thankful that it wasn't something that's life threatening. I'm not ready to part with my sweet, old friend...not sure that I ever will be.

Whew!! I saw the picture & your title & instantly got nervous. I will bawl my eyes out at the loss of anyone's fur-babies.
As our 4 doggies are getting older, we know time isnt as kind to them anymore & it kills me already... its such the down side of owning animals... but the love they give makes up for it.
Glad they got that gravel... I'm sure there will be spring in those steps soon!
Oh thank goodness, she's okay. My heart sank when I first saw your title and photo. My Dixie, who lived to be 14, had some arthritis in her later years too.
Hopefully, the medication will help sweet Maddie feel better.
Whew! I'm glad it was an easy fix and hope she doesn't have the arthritis.
I wish these dog kids of ours could talk!
Or maybe not. Ha.
Poor baby girl!
Aw, poor thing. I'm glad she's okay. I know how tough it is to lose a family pet - we were devastated when we lost our German Shepard Daisy a couple of years ago. We still miss her an awful lot.
Peace. ;)
I'm glad she's okay. My pup is ten and I can't even let my mind go there.
So sweet! And so happy it was only gravel. I have a few other blogging friends who have lost their pets in the past few months. Thanks for your comments ALWAYS on my blog April!! Thought of your daughter and her bed bug problem this morning as I was changing our sheets. How are things going with that problem? Enjoy your day!
These friends are members of our family...no one is ever ready.
I'm following you now with the new Linky tool, so follow back so we can stay connected, Lori
Poor Maddie. You are such a good doggie mama! I am glad it wasn't more serious.
Oh she's so sweet. My Molly lived to be 16! Dachshunds live long lives and I bet yours will perk right back up.
So glad she's feeling better!
Blessings!
Awww...this post really hit me. You know that I have four dogs. My oldest, Aubie, is twelve now, and we see her eyes getting cloudy. She has started tripping sporadically when she walks, and she can't jump onto the futon as easily as she once did. We're trying hard to enjoy each day we have with her.
Hugs to you, my fellow fur-baby mommy!!
ooooohhh, like everyone else, I get really nervous when I see a title and a pic and am not sure where it's going. So glad that the fix this time was a simple one. The dachshunds that I've known have all lived very long lives, so while she may be creaky, you probably have a long time left with your sweet girl. She is loved... and she loves you back!
oh i was afraid to keep reading. glad it had a happy ending. off to hug my chiweenie now!!
Whew! You guys dodged a bullet on that one!!! So glad she's OK!
Glad she is ok!!
How's the bed bug situation?
Aw, poor Maddie. I do hope that it wasn't more than just the gravel and that she's fully recovered.
Oh my goodness, April~ you nearly gave me a heart attack! I thought someting bad had happened... *whew*... so glad to hear that Maddie is alright except for the arthritis.
Bless her little heart~ she has such a sweet face!
They grab our hearts in the most special way, they are family. I am glad that she is okay.
I am so glad she is ok!
