Chris finally finished the cabinet he's been working on for about a week. We had decided on a satin finish, but we both agreed it was just too dull looking. So, he went back to Home Depot to get the stain in a semi-gloss and they didn't have it, so he got it in a gloss, instead. Though I think I would have preferred a semi-gloss finish, I still am very happy with it and think he did a great job of refinishing it. I'm so glad it fit in the corner without any problem! WHEW!
I am so stressed over this whole bed bug situation with Brittany. The Terminix guy came in to treat her room on Thursday and stayed less than 15 mins.! She said he had a small can of pesticide and did a quick spraying around, then left. We called the manager of the complex, immediately, and he said he would call the exterminator's supervisor to find out if the proper protocol was followed. He promised to call us back, but he never did. Chris ended up calling him yesterday morning. Now, the manager is denying that Brittany even has a bed bug problem because when the exterminator went in and sprayed, he was trying to "flush out" the bed bugs from their hiding places. Being that he didn't see any, an infestation was not confirmed. So, I spent half the day researching the subject and being on the phone. I contacted the local Health Dept. down there and they told me they have absolutely no jurisdiction to step in because the apartment complex is private property, not public. Wonderful. I think I might call City Hall today to see if anyone there can tell me what the tenant's rights are in that state. This is past the point of being ridiculous.
On a quick side note, I'm sure most of you have heard by now that Picnik is closing down on April 19th. I'm just sick about it because I joined it 3 years ago and have loved it. It's such an easy site to use! I've tried Photoshop, but I just can't get the hang of it. Anyone using other online photo editing sites that have the same kinds of editing tools as Picnik? Would love to see your recommendations.

I'm so sad about Picnik myself... am still shocked they're closing. I know they had a good business... i've paid for the premium service for 3 years myself. If you find an online service that someone recommends, send it my way. I will say, I HATED Photoshop Elements at first... didnt get it - was confused... but there are so many videos that help with learning & that made it so much easier.

I saw where Picnik is closing too, on my birthday! I only recently joined it a few months ago but I really liked it. I do use Picasa a lot. Have you tried that one?
So sad about that closing. Not sure what I will use either. Funny I asked Ashley yesterday about the mice - she hasn't seen any, which is great. I think of the rent I pay for her to live there and she is living with mice running around. I am sure you feel the same way about your daughter.
It takes a lot of work to refinish furniture so I know your husband is glad that is done and is proud with the final product!
Bed bugs....ewwww! I think I would consider speaking w/ an attorney. Maybe that is grounds for getting out of a lease?

I'm so sorry you are fighting a bedbug problem without much help! Hope you get that resolved. Go to Picasa.com. It's a free photo enhancing site. It doesn't have as many options as photoshop, but it's pretty good, for a freebie! I just stopped by from SITS to say hi. Hope you find time to do the same.
The cabinet is absolutely lovely, April! Gorgeous! So sorry the bed bug problem continues.:( I heard they are just horrid! On a lighter note, I just found out about Downton Abbey, too. Now I see it mentioned wherever I go! It's on PBS but you can watch it online, too. You should go take a peek for a bit of an escape. It is absolutely stunning! I hope the bed bug thing gets fixed- they are SO HARD to get rid of, and they really have to be thorough. I am sad about Picnik too :(
I am so sorry about the bed bug problem!! We have them a plenty in India and what we do is dry everything out in the harsh sun till all of them vanish. Of course for the extreme cases we do call the pest control. What's astonishing is the fact that nobody is willing to hear you out and find a solution to the problem.

Your cabinet looks amazing! Your hubby did a great job. I would be frantic also about the bed bugs. And if she just moves, she'll probably take them with her. I have no clue how to handle this other than what you're doing already! I have heard of using steam, like those handheld steam vacs. Have you tried that? I've never used Picnik but I do use Picasa, although that can be quite confusing to me! I used it to make my header and really every time I go back to it I can't even figure out how to upload a picture. Silly me! Enjoy your Tuesday!

I never used Picnik, but I recently used Pixlr for some calendars we made for Christmas. It was fun and easy to use ... and the photos came out fun (and sometimes funky!).

Can Brittany get out of her lease? Sounds like this place really isn't worth the trouble. When a professional goes in to kill bedbugs EVERYONE has to leave the house for at least 4 days AND if they don't treat the whole complex it won't work. In other words if there are other apartments or rooms in the complex all would have to be treated or the bedbugs just come back.
I just bought the premium Picnik a month or so ago! I will probably go over to Photobucket and keep using Picasa too.

Ugh, that bed bug thing! Do any of the other tenants have the same problem? If they all got together and threatened to not pay rent maybe something would get done about it? Sooo frustrating for her and you!
I've never used Picnik. I didn't even know I used Picasa until I ran out of space in my web albums and had to pay 5.00 for more. Ha. I'm sure that doesn't surprise you though, ha. I'm not good at the picture thing. ; )
The cabinet looks lovely. So sorry about the bed bug thing. This is just crazy. I pray something gets resolved soon. I heard about Picnic and I think that they really should not be allowed to do that to people. I use photobucket but I don't think it does as much as Picnic. I do keep all my photos at Kodak but I don't do any editing with them there, it's just a place to keep them besides my computer.

As for Britt, I would get her out of there ASAP! How is she going to study or concentrate with that mess going on?? I know I was a mess and we didn't even HAVE them - just the thought of them! That's just horrible and no one should have to deal with that!

Picasa is a free google photo program. It is user friendly and fun!
Very nice job! Love it. I can't believe the bed bug thing. I know we had a flea problem in one of my college apartments. The people next door had cats I guess and they were coming through the brick wall! If she gets some diatomaceous earth and sprinkles it on everything (wear a mask because it's not toxic but can get in your lungs) and then let it sit and vaccuum up. It kills anything with an exoskeleton. You can sprinkle boric acid around too.
